Change Can Be Enjoyed
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 9:6-7
Key Verse: Isaiah 9:3
You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as men rejoice
when dividing the plunder.
We celebrate the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecies today. I hope you can spend a few moments reading all of Isaiah chapter nine. Note how it starts: “Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those in distress.” He goes on in verse two to remind us: “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light.” Isaiah goes on to talk about “increased joy” that was coming their way! The climax of the chapter is found in verses six and seven. Take time to read it!
Jesus is the joy Isaiah is foretelling the people about. He is the “great light,” the “child that will be born” and the “son that will be given”! Though they have had to walk in darkness, passing through some very tough times, deliverance is on the way!
Wouldn’t it be great if all our problems went away for the holidays? Not only will our problems not go away, sometimes the holidays highlight our trials, reminding us of past hurts and pain. Allow the prophesy of Isaiah to encourage you God will increase your joy! No, your problems may not go away, but your joy can increase as you trust in the “child that was born, the Son that was given.” Jesus came to give us life and life more abundant. That does not mean that ungodly people won’t look like they have a corner on happiness at times. This world is not our final destiny. Our joy, our rewards are yet to be received. Keep your head up, your heart full of hope, your mind focused on the promise. We have increasing joy!
Father, each day I live is one day closer to my final home with you. Thank you for that hope. I will live today in peace and joy! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
