Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 3:14-17

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 3:17

God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Some people complain that they cannot understand the Bible when they read it. It is true that there are some passages of the Bible that are difficult to understand. However, if we simply obey the ones that are clear and understandable by even a child, we’ll be in good shape spiritually. One of the very clear scriptures is the one we are studying: 2 Timothy 3:16. It starts out, “All Scripture is inspired by God.” There is nothing hard about this instruction from God.

Did you take note that the word “all” started that verse? The Bible, as we have it today, has been inspired by God, every single part of it. That doesn’t mean that it all has the same significance, but it all has the same author! The Bible is really a library of 66 books, written by 44 different people, all being inspired on what to write by the same God. It was written over a period of 1500 years. There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. The amazing thing about the above facts is that over all those years and using all those people to write it, it all points in the same direction, using the same theme: God reaching out to mankind. The consistency is so amazing that it becomes one of the many reasons to believe in the divine inspiration of the scriptures.

Down through the ages, people have tried to destroy the Bible. These attacks go back even before the Middle Ages. Groups have burned copies of the Bible. Over the years, leaders have ruled it illegal to have or read the Bible. One of the main translators of the Bible into modern day language, William Tyndale, was martyred for his translating work. In the early 1500s, they strangled Tyndale and burned him at the stake. (Continued)
