The Wedding of All Weddings
Sending Invitations – Part 3

Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:16-30

Key Verse: Matthew 28:19

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

If God’s plan was to save a select group of people and He has already picked them out, what part of our key verse would make sense to any thinking person. Jesus told his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations. John makes it clear in his gospel, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life (John 3:15). His Gospel continued with, “…whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Surely these words make it clear that God has not selected a few to be saved but, rather, opened the “banquet hall” to any and all who would accept His invitation.

Our scripture for today’s devotional is often referred to as the Great Commission. Jesus is giving the disciples their marching orders, they are to go into all the world giving the invitation to join the family of God. Every day of their lives, they had one goal, one mission, to invite people to open their hearts to God’s love and forgiveness. I don’t believe they “preached” every day with their words, but they did model the love of God to all they encountered. I believe they lived with intentionality, with this purpose of building a bridge for people around them to cross over to a life of faith in Jesus.

Is your life full of this same purpose? I know that many Christ followers feel guilty that they don’t “witness” more to their unbelieving friends. However, I think that is because we don’t understand that God wants us to do far more “living the life” than “talking about the life.” There will come a time when it’s right, and naturally, to tell people what God has done for us, but usually that is much later in the relationship. Father, I will accept my mission, please help me. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
