God Uses People to Care for People

John 16:33 promises you peace, not a trouble-free life

God Uses People to Care for People
Lead by Example – Part III

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:1-12

Key Verse: John 16:33
“I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Today’s Key Verse has good news, bad news, and a command.

The good news is that God has given us Jesus’s teachings so that we may have peace. Think about what Jesus is telling us in this verse. We can have peace in our minds and hearts, a peace that is not of this world but from God Himself.

One of the major reasons people struggle when a serious problem pops up in their life is because these problems cause us to worry and be afraid about what might happen to us if we cannot fix this problem. People lay awake at night thinking about what they are going to do about their problems.

When we put our faith in Jesus, we can defeat worry and fear when it knocks on our heart’s door. We cannot stop worry and fear from tempting us to allow it invade our minds. But we can stop worry and fear from making our hearts their home. Our challenge is to believe and rest in Jesus’s words: “… in me you may have peace”.

Take a moment and picture what your life would be like if you never allowed worry or fear to wreck your joy and peace in Jesus. No more anxiety! No more sleepless nights! No more stressed-out days at work! No matter what the world and the evil one throws at you… simply trust Jesus’s words: “… in me you may have peace”.

“Wonderful Peace” is an old hymn we used to sing. The third verse is:

I am resting tonight in this wonderful peace,
Resting sweetly in Jesus’s control;
For I’m kept from all danger by night and by day,
And His glory is flooding my soul!

Then the chorus:

Peace, peace, wonderful peace,
Coming down from the Father above!
Sweep over my spirit forever, I pray
In fathomless billows of love!

Do you agree that this is good news for us believers?

There is bad news in our Key Verse as well: “In this world you will have trouble”. Today’s Key Verse promises us peace, but not a trouble-free life.

When unbelievers feel peace during the few times of no real problems, it is the only peace this world has to offer. Jesus said He did not give us the limited peace that the world has to offer; He gives us His peace.

Jesus’s peace can live in us when we have no problems and when we have many problems. Do not believe that coming to Jesus means no more problems; that is simply a lie. Our peace in Jesus is all about His many promises to us that help us deal with our problems.

Father, I praise You for Your promise of peace through Jesus Christ our Lord. With Your help, I will not allow anything to steal this from me. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
