The God of Hope – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Romans 15:8-13
Key Verse: Romans 15:13
I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
A joy-filled life is waiting for every believer who has grown their faith to the point that they daily live in trust of God’s love and power! It’s impossible for it not to happen—God never fails; nothing is impossible with Him. Who couldn’t sense the deep joy once they are living in faith?
Let me speak to this “joy” of the Lord. We must not confuse it with the emotion of happiness. There are many troubles and trials that come our way that we will not be happy about. Think about it, would most people get out of bed and go to work if they had decided they had to be happy about it or they wouldn’t go? No, for most mature people there is a deep joy that they have a job and can pay their bills. There is a deep joy that comes when they have a little extra and can afford some “happy” moments on a vacation. Yes, a good job may not make us feel happy, but we have a deep joy that we have one.
So it is as we walk with Jesus. We have a deep joy that we have been saved from our sins. We have a deep joy that we have a powerful God who can make bad things turn out for our good. Is there always a giddy happy feeling? Of course not; life is hard. Mature Christ followers offer the sacrifice of praise (Hebrews 13:15). We offer these praises to God in spite of hardships. We know our reward in heaven will be well worth it all!
Father, I praise you for being such a loving and powerful friend. With your help I will live in faith and trust today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
