Read your Bible slowly, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you

Preparing for the Charge
Empty Forms – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 3:1-9

Key Verse: 2 Timothy 3:5

…having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

As we continue from yesterday’s devotional, let’s turn to the remedy of empty forms.  The first word of advice to Timothy from Paul was: “Continue in what you have learned” (2 Timothy 3:14).  If you are in a dry spot in your spiritual journey, Paul is saying to get back to the basic teachings you once lived out.  Sometimes we have to just keep doing what we know to do and leave the rest to God.

Secondly, Paul talks to Timothy about his knowledge of the Holy Scriptures.  If it feels that you are more empty than full, let me encourage you to turn to your Bible.  If it has been a while since you’ve read it, turn to the book of Ephesians.  Take the next couple of months and saturate your mind by reading it over and over.

Remember the words of the apostle found in this same passage: “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (vs. 16).  Read your Bible slowly, allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to you in whatever ways are necessary.  We all need to be corrected—even rebuked—at times.  Are you open to that?  If you will be consistent in your reading of God’s Word, He will purge you of sin and fill you with Himself!

Father, I long to walk with you in fullness and in your power.  Correct the wrong in my life.  Make me a worthy vessel for your Holy Spirit.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
