God gauges our passion for Him by our choices with money

Financial Fears
God vs. Money – Part 2

Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:22-30

Key Verse: Matthew 6:24

“No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.”

As we studied in yesterday’s devotional, God gauges our passion for Him by our choices with money.  He knows the importance money plays in most people’s lives.  God doesn’t hate money; He provides us our wealth.  Got hates when money takes the place in our hearts that belongs to him!

During an interview, a young man trying out for the TV show American Idol, said that music was his life.  He then said something I found profound.  “Passion’s definition is that which you will suffer for.”  He went on to describe all that he had sacrificed to continue to do his music.  For what are you willing to suffer? Look over this past year and take note of the things you’ve made sacrifices in order to have or help someone.  God is looking at these things, knowing where our passions lie!

Our scripture challenges us to make God, not money, our passion.  He wants to be number one in your life; Lord or Master over you.  There is no need to fear God being your “master.”  He is a better master than money or any other object of our affections which we may think of!  He will never harm you or bring evil upon you.  He is always working for His children; working all things out for their good!  (Romans 8:28)

Father, I surrender every part of me and all my possessions to you.  You drive and I’ll take the ride along with you!  In Jesus’s name, amen.
