Scripture reminds us to take our anxious thoughts and turn them into prayers

Spiritual Praises of the Holy
Rejoice in the Lord

Scripture Reading: Philippians 4:4-7

Key Verse: Philippians 4:4

Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!

thought it would be good, since we have been talking about declaring God’s praises, to end September with the great passage in God’s Word on rejoicing: Philippians 4:4. We can always declare God’s praises because “the Lord is near” (Philippians 4:5). This verse reminds us that we are never alone; God is nearby, watching over us. Declare His praises!

The Apostle Paul goes on to remind us that we should never be anxious about anything. We don’t need to be anxious about our life’s problems because God promised to work everything out to our good. Declare His praises!

This great passage of scripture reminds us to take our anxious thoughts and turn them into prayers. These prayers are to be characterized by their elements of thanksgiving in them. In other words, our prayers should always be full of faith, knowing God is listening and will act according to His good purposes. We can declare His praises.

Finally, this passage reminds us that God’s peace, which goes beyond our understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. How great is God when He steps into our minds and puts His peace there to calm us! His peace stands guard against the devil’s attacks of fear and doubt. The Apostle Peter was right: We can declare the praises of Him who called us!

Father, thank you for the abundant life you have provided us. I will reject doubt and fear. I will declare your praises. In Jesus’ name, amen.
