Victory Over Strongholds

You must co-partner with God to break a stronghold in your life; add your effort to His power!

Victory Over Strongholds
What Is a Stronghold – Part III

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 10:1-5

Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 10:4
The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.

Before we deal with actual strongholds that can exist in our lives, there are a couple more principles about strongholds to remember.

The first principle is how our self-control collaborates with God’s power. Once we have given up on defeating a stronghold with just our self-control and have asked God to help us, we partner with God to use His divine power in conjunction with our self-control.

Scriptures are clear that our part is cooperating with God’s power so that victory over strongholds continues for the rest of our lives:

I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I might be disqualified. (1 Corinthians 9:27 NLT)

And:

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. (Titus 2:11-12)

These verses, and many more in the New Testament, teach us our part once God does what only He can do in our lives. All believers must be God’s co-partners in the journey to remove strongholds from our lives. God continues to help us as we work to stay in step with the Holy Spirit in us.

God gives all believers His Holy Spirit the moment we believe in Jesus (Romans 8:9-11) and reminds us of the truths that Jesus teaches (John 14:26).

Realize that God does all the heavy work to keep us walking in victory over our strongholds. Our part is to listen and obey the Holy Spirit.

Have you heard the adage “We do what we want to do”?

When I tell someone that I do not have time to do what they are asking, that usually means I do not want to do it. When it comes to something I want to do, then somehow, I can find the time. The good news is God knows this about us and works in us accordingly:

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him. (Philippians 2:13 NLT)

God gives us the desire to do what we must do in cooperation with His divine power:

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? (Romans 8:31 NLT).

God loves you and He wants you to live in victory.

Father, I will do my part, as You complete your work in me. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
