Neglected Biblical Truths

The Holy Spirit pleads for you because He believes in you and loves you

Neglected Biblical Truths
Prayers of the Holy Spirit – Part II

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:18-30

Key Verses: Romans 8:26-27 NLT
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

Our topic for yesterday and today is a neglected truth because believers do not understand the details of the Holy Spirit’s help with our prayers.

What exactly does it mean that the Holy Spirit prays for us with “groanings that cannot be expressed in words?”. I do not have the perfect and complete answer to that question. But I would like to share some thoughts that hopefully help us appreciate this great truth.

Some believers think that this phrase means that there is a prayer language for believers. It is not that there is a special prayer language but that the Holy Spirit translates our words so that the Father fully understands.

Read again the next phrase: “And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying”.

We ought to have confidence that we do not have to worry about whether we phrase our prayers properly or that they are too repetitive. We can know our prayer time is effective by trusting that the Holy Spirit communicates to the Father what we truly need and what our hearts are trying to say!

The last phrase in Romans 8:27 NLT is good news for every praying believer: “… the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will”.

What does that phrase mean to you? When someone pleads for another, it shows great love and care for that person. It means that the one doing the pleading truly believes in the one for whom they are pleading. We can trust that the Holy Spirit perfects our prayers for our Father in Heaven.

This is the picture for every believer. The Holy Spirit pleads for us because He believes in us and loves us. The Holy Spirit pleads for us to the Father and what He pleads for is in “harmony with God’s own will”.

The Holy Spirit and the Father are one in essence and thinking, just as Jesus is one with the Father (John 10:30). Let this encourage you. Never stop praying!

Father, I know You hear and care about my prayers! In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
