When it comes to our nature, we need a transformation by the power of Jesus

The Manger
Our Nature – Part 2

Scripture Reading; Ephesians 2:1-7

Key Verse: Ephesians 2:3c

By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

There are many areas where we all can pull ourselves up by the boot straps, so to speak, and get going on a new path. However, when it comes to dealing with our nature, we are powerless. We were born with this nature that has built in inclinations to sin against God. We cannot change that by our willpower or by deep determination.

When it comes to our nature, which is stained by the sin of Adam and Eve, we need a transformation that can only be accomplished by Jesus. Let’s go back to our scripture in Ephesians: “But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, He gave us life when He raised Christ from the dead. It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved” (Ephesians 2:4-5).

As God took a crude wooden structure called a manger, and transformed it into a notable piece of furniture made for King Jesus, God comes to transform our sinful nature into a nature filled with right living. Our faith in Jesus opens the floodgates of God’s power to change the inclinations of our nature. God’s sanctifying power changes our inclinations from sinful behaviors to righteous acts of love and kindness. After Jesus, we no longer can be comfortable with sinful behavior; it will never again bring us the pleasure it did before Jesus. We’ve been transformed into the image of Christ. We no longer live but Christ lives in us. Our very nature is changed forever!

Father, I am in awe of Your love and power that You make available to us, your children. I will live in You today. In Jesus’s name, amen.
