Christmas Landscape

You don’t feel blessed by God during these tough times, but you will later!

The Stable
A Farm Scene – Part 4

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-7

Key Verse: Luke 2:7

She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

The stable was undoubtedly a dimly lit barn that had unpleasant odors when Mary and Joseph settled in to rest there. They had shelter but that probably wasn’t what Joseph had imagined for his Mary, especially when she was about to give birth.

It reminds me of another dimly lit, damp place where a boy named Joseph found himself. This Joseph started his day with a great gift from his father, a coat of many colors. His day ended with his brothers selling him to a band of vagabonds. The brothers smeared animal blood on the coat and convinced their father that his favorite son, Joseph, had been killed by animals.

Did Joseph feel that God was blessing his day? No, he undoubtedly felt that God had totally failed him and his life was wrecked.

You’ve felt that way—maybe you do right now. Life suddenly turns on you and thoughts of confusion upset you: “Where is God?” You don’t feel blessed by God during these tough times. In fact, you can become convinced you are being punished by God for the failures of your humanity. I know; I’ve been there.

Let’s get back to Joseph because his story isn’t over. Moving ahead many years, he was promoted to governor over all of Egypt, and because of a horrible famine, his brothers ended up in front of him, in need of food. Joseph forgave them and their entire family is provided for because Joseph was in charge.

God had been blessing all along. Only in the end could they see it! God is blessing you!

Father, thank You for blessing me! In Jesus’s name, amen.
