God’s drawing power is internal, a work in our inner hearts and minds

The Star
Drawing Power – Part 2

Scripture Reading: John 6:39-46

Key Verse: John 6:44

“For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.”

As the star led the wise men to Jesus, so God’s Spirit leads people to a place where they can choose to receive Jesus. We all have experienced the powerful draw of our sinful nature to satisfy the lust of the flesh. God knows that without His help we would not be able to say no to this continual influence on our inner beings. God graciously stepped into human history, sending a Savior, His Son Jesus Christ to help us. We are celebrating this gift of help at Christmas.

This Spirit of God matches and goes beyond the power of the sinful nature. God’s drawing power is internal, a work in our inner hearts and minds. He, the Spirit of God, relentlessly works in us before and after our decision to accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord. The old time preachers used to call God’s Spirit the “hound of heaven,” which referred to hunting hounds that, once on a trail, refuse to give up!

Yes, there is a drawing power at work in our world today. In every nation, to all people, God is wooing people to Himself. We don’t always recognize this internal work of God, but it’s real and powerful. It is true that people can harden their hearts and choose to reject these internal invitations to come to Jesus, but God never gives up!

Father, thank You for not giving up on me — not before I was saved and not now as I walk with You. You are a faithful Father. In Jesus’s name, amen.
