The Star Spotted – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:1-10
Key Verse: Matthew 2:2
“Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”
As described in yesterday’s devotional, the landscape of Christmas carries important messages. The scripture reminds us that part of the landscape of Christmas is a star. When we drive by nativity scenes, they normally include a star over the stable; it’s part of the landscape.
The star becomes part of the story of Christmas; we miss the foundational mission of God without the star. This star guided men to Jesus. These “wise” men were “thinking” men, men who studied the scriptures as well as the stars. But the truth is this star guided them to Jesus, not because they were wise, but because God wanted them to find Jesus and know that God had not forsaken this world.
The star reminds us of God’s desire to guide people to Jesus. God is still at the business of guiding people, of all races and creeds, to Jesus. The true message of the star is that God so loved the world that He gave His only Son to die for the sins of the world. The message of the star is, when people find Jesus, they find the Savior of the world and they can be saved. The landscape of Christmas wants every person who drives by to know how much God loves them. If they slow down, they can find Him!
Thanks Father, for reminding us all how much You love us and want us to find Jesus. In Jesus’s name, amen.
