Thanksgiving for the Kingdom of God

Center rejoicing for God’s Kingdom on one thing: your name is written in Heaven

Thanksgiving for the Kingdom of God
Proper Rejoicing for the Kingdom – Part I

Scripture Reading: Luke 10:17-20

Key Verse: Luke 10:20
“However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

In today’s Scripture Reading, Jesus sent His disciples on a mission to spread the Good News of the Kingdom of God to the surrounding towns. Upon their return, they rejoiced for all the victories they had and rejoiced that even demons submitted to them in Jesus’s Name.

The disciples’ rejoicing is not surprising because I would certainly rejoice if a demon submitted to me when I engaged it in the Name of Jesus.

However, as today’s Key Verse reminds us, the focus of our rejoicing ought to be because God has written our names in Heaven.

This Key Verse sparks a reminder in my mind and heart. I try to be a very grateful Christ-follower; I believe that everything good in my life comes from God’s generous hand. But I seldom praise God specifically because He has written my name in Heaven.

As I think about this, I realize that proper praise starts with the recognition that Jesus saves us through our faith, and it is our faith that results in God writing our names in the Book of Life in Heaven. Knowing that God has recorded our names in Heaven makes life on this earth good.

Yes, unbelievers may see their lives as good, but they do not understand how short this life is and how long the next life will be. But, as Christ-followers, we have the light of Jesus in our hearts and can enjoy life knowing that God has secured our eternity.

Jesus knows that His followers need reminding that the greatest thing in earthly life is the moment when God records their names in Heaven’s Book of Life.

For us Christ-followers who have walked with the Lord for many years, it is easy to take for granted our eternal life with God. Our daily prayers should always start with thanksgiving and praising God for all He means to us and all He has blessed us with.

At the top of the list of all the reasons for rejoicing and praising God is that our names are in the Book of Life in Heaven!

Father, all my praise to You begins with my name written in Heaven. I cannot imagine not having that peace in my heart. I pray all this in Jesus’s Name, amen.
