I Know I Need a Savior!
When We Were Powerless
Scripture Reading: Romans 5:1-5
Key Verse: Romans 5:6
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.
There is one thing worse than being powerless and that is to not know that we are powerless. That was the condition of mankind prior to Jesus’ appearing in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger! We were powerless in the most essential thing of life. As far as ethics, those who even cared about living “right” were powerless to do so. Those who wanted to have peace with God truly could not, other than external religious rituals that made them feel better for a time. For sure, any certainty of heaven was far beyond the reach of those prior to Christ.
The Apostle Paul said, “When we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” That was what we needed, someone to clear the debt we owed, but could not pay. We needed someone with the power to do for us what we could not do for ourselves! Yes, we needed a Savior!
Do you feel powerless in your life? Have you admitted your need for a Savior? Have you given up on trying to save yourself? The Old Testament prophet Isaiah wrote: “All of us have become like one who is unclean and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). We must realize that on our best day, as far as doing good, we still look bad compared to a Holy God. The one who prays the most, reads the Bible all day, and carefully tries to do everything right still falls short of the holiness of God! Do you know what I know? I know I need a Savior. Do you?
Father, I humble myself before you with a desire to give you authentic worship. You deserve it. Thanks for sending Jesus! In His Name I pray, amen.
