If you want to grow your faith, then you must decide to find time to read God’s Word

Experiencing the Power of God
God’s Power is Dependent on Faith – Part IV

Scripture Reading: Matthew 13:53-58

Key Verse: Matthew 13:58
And He did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.

I hope that these recent devotionals have convinced you that our faith is the key to enjoying and experiencing God’s power that He has made available to us. We all want to grow our faith so we have God’s power in us.

The Bible gives us a formula on how to grow our faith:

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. (Romans 10:17)

The first clear thing is that we cannot have strong faith if we do not know the promises of God. When a person tells me that they do not have enough faith, I find out how much time they spend reading the Bible.

If you want to grow your faith, then you must decide to find time to read God’s Word.

The good news is we are living in a day that you can easily find scriptures to read, even if you do not own a Bible. Google “the promises of God in the Bible” and find many resources to help you find God’s promises to you. Google suggests these sources that I like: www.openbible.info, www.biblehub.com, and www.biblegateway.com.

Not only do we need to read the Bible and the verses about God’s promises to grow our faith, but we also need to study them.

I heard one preacher say that the difference between simply reading the Bible and studying the Bible is a pen and paper. In other words, he was challenging Christ-followers to write out the scriptures that they wanted to remember.

I have found that most of the time when fear or anxiety attack me, I do not have my Bible right beside me. When anger starts to rise in my heart, I usually cannot stop everything and read scriptures to help me. But I have read God’s promises enough times that the Holy Spirit can bring them to my mind.

When you get serious about growing your faith, then get a pen and paper and start writing out the promises of God. Put that paper somewhere that you see it every day. It will not take long before you burn these promises into your mind and heart. Then, when the devil tries to rob you of your joy in the Lord, you can resist him and watch him flee from you, because you can quote scripture to his face.

Here are a few scriptures to get your started:

Father, I will read and study Your Word, trusting You to build my faith so I might live the abundant life. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
