Fear of Failure
Source of our Competence
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:1-6
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 3:4
Such confidence as this is ours through Christ before God.
God uses failure in our lives to help us discover the true source of our competence. If we start thinking that our source of competence is found anywhere other than God Himself, we are doomed to failure. It is essential for every Christ-follower to learn to do all things with our focus on our true source of competence! As much as we hate it, failure often is what it takes to get our attention back on the God of all competence!
It is also important to remember in this discussion, that failure, as defined by worldly standards, is certainly different than God’s definition. Often, what we feel is a failure, will turn out to be a great success in God’s bigger picture. We must entrust to God our experiences and let Him determine failure or success. Either way, God never wastes any of our experiences. He will use our failures and our successes to accomplish His good purposes in our lives. That is the peace we Christ followers must rest on!
As you face today’s challenges, say with the Apostle Paul: “Not that we are competent in ourselves…but our competence comes from God” (2 Corinthians 3:5). Once we bring God’s power into our day, we can go with confidence.
Father, I refuse to allow fear of failure to stop me from trying new experiences. You are my competence. In Jesus’s name, amen.
