God would not want us to be wasteful or foolish in money matters

God’s View of Money – Part 1

Scripture Reading: Mark 12:41-44

Key Verse: Mark 12:43

Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.

Most of us are pretty secretive about our money and how we manage it.  Most people don’t want others knowing about their financial situation.  They certainly don’t want anyone telling them what to do with their money.  With that, I need to ask, do you care about God’s view of how you manage your money?  If you are a Bible believer, then you can learn how God views money and how He wants His followers to handle it.

In today’s scripture we learn some initial perspectives of God’s views on money.  First, it’s noteworthy that Jesus took note of the gifts and givers in the temple.  God is watching all of us handle our money.  We may try to be secretive, but we don’t cover up anything from God’s view.  That fact alone ought to help us take our responsibility to be good managers seriously.  We don’t have to be CPAs to know God would not want us to be wasteful of our money or foolish in our spending.

When you realize that God knows and sees your money practices, are you proud or ashamed of how you are doing?  Does anything come to your mind that ought to change in how you manage your finances?  If you believe as I do that God watches us because He cares deeply about us, would you be willing to learn and live by His money principles?

I want to handle my money in a way that honors you.  Grant me your wisdom.  In Jesus’s name, amen.
