When Fear Comes Knocking
Who is Your Stronghold? – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Psalm 27:1-5
Key Verse: Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?
Psalm 27 is a powerful tool against any and all fears that may try to overwhelm us! In verse five, we are reminded that God’s promises to us won’t make us exempt from “days of trouble.” If we never had days of trouble, we would soon lose the reality of God’s power in our lives. It is in facing our troubles, releasing them to God, that we get the joy of seeing His divine power continually working in our lives.
Too often, when we are in those “days of trouble,” we spend too much time and energy wondering why we are going through them. Is it something we did wrong? Is it something someone else did to us? Is it God simply testing our faith? The truth is, it doesn’t matter why I’m going through troubles as much as what I do during the troubles.
During your troubles, before you get to see how the Lord will work it all out, are you full of anxiety and fear? Are you upset and hard to live with? What do people around you see as you go through your troubles? God wants us to move from misery to His mercy. He wants to keep us safe and hide us in His sheltering arms. If we will claim His care and live in that belief, people can share in our blessings of God’s work during our days of trouble.
Father, I am determined to simply hide in your care when troubles come upon me. In Jesus’s name, amen.
