Fear, guilt, or shame do not fit in the abundant life that Jesus died to give us

The Armor of Light – Part IV

Scripture Reading: Romans 13:8-14

Key Verse: Romans 13:12
The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light”.

We have been studying the phrase found in our Key Verse: “put on the armor of light”.

The Bible has this same idea in other terms, such as “walking in the light”. If we are walking in the light, we can know we have put on the armor of light. Walking in the light means that we are doing everything we know to do to be obedient to the directions we believe the Lord has given to us.

Yesterday’s devotional talked about the safeguards to use for trying to figure out whether it is God’s voice we hear or not.

Many times, it has seemed to me that God has gone silent no matter how much I ask Him to speak to me.

For example, when I received the invitation to come pastor the church that I pastored for 31 years, I spent a week trying to hear from God about whether I should make the move or not. Every day that week, I pleaded with God to give me a sign or let me hear His voice so I could know His will for the move I was considering.

I got nothing! By Friday of that week, I had to decide. On the last day I had a thought come to my mind. The thought was, “Ben, you can stay put and preach, or you can move to another place and preach. In either place, you will preach God’s Word. Choose according to what you want.”

So, I decided to move to the town where I would spend the next 31 years pastoring. God blessed my ministry so much in those years, that I have concluded that God gave me that that thought.

It was not long after my move to the new church that Philippians 2:13 spoke to me. This was the principle that played out in my move:

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

Christ-followers can get very anxious in wondering if they are where God wants or are doing what God wants. We should be very diligent that we do not miss any instructions from the Lord. The Lord sees our hearts and knows when we want His will in our lives.

If this is the case for you, you can relax with peace knowing that God puts desire in you that helps you go in the direction that He wants.

Once we surrender and tell God that we want to do what He wants us to do and go where He wants us to go, then the rest is up to God. He directs our footsteps!

Christ-follower, Jesus wants you to have His abundant life. Fear, guilt, or shame do not fit in His abundant life. Resist these emotions and live in God’s freedom!

Father, I put on Your armor of Light to live the life that Jesus died to give me. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
