People of the Cross – Part I
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:21-25
Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:24
He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By His wounds you are healed”.
In the next devotionals, we are going to see that People of Light are also People of the Cross. The connection between the two are inseparable. No one can become a person of the Light unless they first believe in the Cross of Christ.
As today’s Key Verse tells us, Jesus carried our sins in His body on the Cross. Everything we are or ever will be is because of the Cross. As the Apostle Paul wrote in his letter to the Galatians:
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us – for it is written, “cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree –” (Galatians 3:13 ESV).
The world does not understand why we focus upon Jesus’s sacrifice on the Cross and yet call the Friday before Easter “Good Friday”. The Apostle Paul wrote:
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18 NLT)
Good Friday is good because Jesus’s sacrifice is the power of God for salvation to the world. Jesus carried our sins to the Cross and His blood paid for those sins. We no longer are slaves to sin but are victors over sin, death, and hell… all because of the Cross.
People of Light can see the truth about the value of the Cross. We understand that we have an inheritance of eternal life because of the Cross. We are part of God’s family now and forever, all because of the Cross.
Jesus gives us abundant life now; Jesus proclaimed that it was the reason for His coming to this earth:
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10)
Aren’t you glad that you have a Light in you and can see the difference between darkness and Light in this world? People of Light know that the devil is the chief of thieves and is ready to steal our joy, kill, and destroy us. Be thankful for the covering that God gives us when we said “yes” to Jesus.
People of darkness make fun of any reference to the devil and his unseen world. They cannot see the truth and live in the evil one’s world of lies and deceit. I hope you take time during this Easter season to praise God for drawing you out of darkness and making you a part of His Family. Let’s be grateful for Jesus and His willingness to go to the Cross for our salvation and our abundant life in Him.
We, as God’s People of Light, cannot see all the glorious wonders of being in God’s family now… but we will someday! God promises that we can enjoy forever the wonders of eternity with Him.
Father, help me to never take for granted the work You have done in me through Jesus and the Cross. I praise You now and throughout eternity. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
