People of Light
Believe in the Light – Part II
Scripture Reading: John 12:27-37
Key Verse: John 12:36
“Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.”
If you are a believer, how often do you praise and thank the Lord for the light He has put in you?
Andrew Murray was a biblical preacher and champion of the South African Revival of 1860. He suggested to pray like this every day: “Father, thank you for the position in your family you have given me. I accept this position and rest in it. I am in Christ and will abide in Him today”. I have prayed this for several years.
We all need reminding of the great privilege it is to be a part of God’s family. What joy to realize the mercy and forgiveness once we allow Jesus to come into our lives.
For me, it can be overwhelming to grasp the love that God has for me, especially when I think of when I have failed Him. As the Apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, God is faithful even when we are unfaithful (2 Timothy 2:13).
There are so many blessings that come from being People of Light.
The first blessing that comes to mind is that we no longer need to fear hell. Romans 6:23 tells us:
The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 1:12 adds:
To all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God.
A second blessing is that God works all things out for our good. The New Living Translation of Romans 8:28 reads:
And we know that God causes everything to work together for good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.
Let’s praise God who is willing to step into any circumstance, no matter how terrible it is, and turn things around so it all turns out to be a blessing to us!
We cannot always see those blessings, in the moment, because we are unaware of our future. But we serve a God who sees our future and knows exactly how to make our present circumstances turn out to be helpful to us in our future circumstances.
I try to praise God for any circumstance I am in because He makes all things turn out good. I am not always successful at remembering, but I am getting better! I hope you are as well.
Though the list of God’s blessings goes on and on, here is one more for which I am especially grateful. God gives me the desire and the power to please him. This comes from Philippians 2:1(NLT):
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
People of Light do not need to constantly worry about whether they are pleasing God. Jesus paid the price for us, and we can relax in Him. Let us be people full of praise and thanksgiving to God!
Father, I am so grateful for Jesus and all that means to me in my daily life. I praise You for Your wonderful plan of Salvation! In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
