People of Light

God loves and wants all people, but you must act before it is too late

Believe in the Light – Part I

Scripture Reading: John 12:27-37

Key Verse: John 12:36
“Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.”

Jesus gives a warning in our today’s Key Verse. He reminds us that there is a time limit on His offer of salvation. In other words, there is a time coming when the offer of salvation is no longer available.

God loves and wants all people, but each person must act before it is too late. Jesus is coming again, and that moment marks the deadline when it is too late for people to get serious about their walk with God.

In the Old Testament, the Bible gives us a picture of what being late to act looks like. The story of Noah and his ark is a familiar one. As Noah built the ark, there was time for people to believe in the message from God and save themselves. When God closed the door to the ark and the rain started to pour down, people raced to the ark wanting to save themselves, but it was too late.

When Jesus appears for the second time, believers will go up with Him to their eternal rewards. For those left behind it will be too late for Jesus to save them. There may be those who grew up in church and have heard of the second coming many times, yet failed to take any personal action. As the book of Hebrews reminds us:

Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment. (Hebrews 9:27)

There is a human tendency to act like life simply continues just like it always has. However, most of us know that there is coming a day when either our lives on earth end or Jesus appears for a second time. When this happens, opportunity to believe and have Jesus save you is over.

Have you accepted God’s love, confessed your sins, and asked Jesus to save you? If not, today is the day! My prayer is that you:

“Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” (John 12:36)

If you are a believer, let this remind you how important it is to let your light shine so that others around you can see your light and accept Jesus as their savior.

Be sure to have all the unbelievers that you know on your prayer list. Pray every day for those people that God might take the scales from their eyes and the plugs from their ears so that they understand God loves them and wants to spend eternity with them.

Pray that God brings someone into their lives that are effective in sharing Jesus. There might come a time that God nudges you to speak to them. Prayer is not the least you can do, it is the most you can do!

Father, make me more aware of the shortness of time. Help me to be more earnest in my prayers for those who are far from You. I ask this in Jesus’s Name, amen.
