March Like Jesus

The transforming work of God starts in your mind and changes the way you think

March Like Jesus
… Do Life on the Rock! – Part I

Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:24-29

Key Verse: Matthew 7:24
“Anyone who listens to My teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.

Everyone builds their life on core beliefs. It normally starts in our childhood, listening and seeing the examples our parents set for us. When we come of age and start making our own decisions, our core beliefs may start looking different than our parents’.

A friend of my said that when he was old enough to drive and start dating, the only advice his dad gave him was to be careful not to get caught. It was this that formed the core belief in that family, and they built their life around it. Obviously, there were other core beliefs, but this gives us an example of what it means to build our lives on something.

Jesus came to redirect our core beliefs, transforming them into God’s Kingdom beliefs. This is what Jesus was referring to when He challenged His listeners to build their house on solid rock! The Apostle Paul referred to this transformation in his letter to the Roman Christ-followers:

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.” (Romans 12:2)

No one can truly build their lives on the solid rock of Christ without the transforming work of God in our minds to change the way we think.

So, here are questions for you: Are you letting God change the way you think? Do you see the world and its beliefs differently than you did before Jesus came into your life?

The job new Christ-followers have, soon after they have been born again, is to start to rebuild their lives on the Rock!

The Sermon on the Mount is full of “marching orders” that give the blueprint of what we want our new house on the rock to look like. Jesus started it with the Beatitudes, the attitudes that we are to have as we live on this Rock. Jesus continued to show us the behaviors that we are to show, as we build our house on this Rock. These include things such as anger, lust, handling our enemies, praying properly, and managing our money. All these things look different as we live on the Rock rather than the world.

Have you ever had an encounter with a stranger, and within minutes you sensed that they were Christ-followers?

I have and it is because when we build our house on the rock, we recognize others that have done the same! Are you building your life on the Rock?

Father, grant me wisdom and insight so that my life will show Your Kingdom values in the way I live! In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
