Our Power to Rejoice
Our Confidence – Part 1
Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:11-15
Key Verse: 1 John 5:14
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
The power behind our right to rejoice is God’s very words. It is God’s Word, given to us so that we would be able to enjoy abundant life! But in this world we have obstacles to this enjoyment. We face issues that concern us and lead us toward a life of fretting. If we are to be free of anxiety and live a life of confidence, we must trust the words that proceeded out of the mouth of God Himself!
This is our confidence, John wrote, when we go to prayer: we can ask anything. Let’s think about that part of John’s answer to anxiety. There is nothing you should hesitate talking to God about. If you are concerned about it, so is He—for He cares for you! That alone brings confidence to our souls. My Father in Heaven, the Almighty God, creator of this universe, knows me and cares deeply about me!
The apostle goes on: ask anything according to His will. This is another key phrase, “according to His will.” Can you trust God’s will? I hope so because the Apostle Paul reminds us that God’s will is “good, pleasing, and perfect” (Romans 12:2). Yes, we always want to ask for things that fit into God’s will. Anything that falls outside His will is bad, disappointing and imperfect! I never want anything outside God’s will. When I pray, my requests are always surrendered to God’s will. I wouldn’t want it any other way! (More tomorrow.)
Father, thanks for your will in my affairs. I believe you want nothing except for my best! I praise you and rejoice in you today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
