Big Rocks for Strong Christ-Followers
Today’s Big Rock: Thinking of Others – Part III
Scripture Foundation: Hebrews 10:24-25
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Notice that the first verse of our Scripture Foundation for this section is: “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works”.
How can we motivate another person to do acts of love and good works?
Over the years I have found that when someone helps another and we make a big deal of it, they are much more likely to continue to help others.
It is true we should do our acts of love and good deeds without expecting even a “pat on the back”. But we are all human and it does feels good to have someone say something nice about us because they saw us do a good deed for someone.
In other words, when we catch someone doing a good thing, an encouraging word goes a long way in motivating them to make those good deeds a habit in their lives.
For me, it is almost embarrassing how people’s kind words can motivate me to keep doing good things.
The Bible tells us how powerful someone’s words can be to another person:
Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. (Proverbs 16:24)
And
Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction. The tongue can bring death or life. (Proverbs 18:20-21a)
To motivate others, do not pass up an opportunity to say some kind words when you see them doing acts of love.
Hopefully, other believers encourage you when they see you doing acts of love. Even if not, decide to keep at it. The Lord Almighty always sees you do it, and that is most important.
People can only pat you on the back. God will bless you now and into eternity. This shows that “Thinking of Others” is a Big Rock in God’s view.
Father, help me never to get too busy to notice the good deeds of others. Help me encourage them. In Jesus’s name, amen.
