Big Rocks for Strong Christ-Followers
Today’s Big Rock: Communication – Part III
Scripture Foundation: Matthew 23:23
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the law—justice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.”
Yesterday’s devotion showed us that God is looking for faith in our communication with Him.
The Hebrew writer made this even more clear in Hebrews 11:6:
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him.
Do you truly believe that God exists? Do you truly believe that He rewards you if you sincerely seek Him?
No matter how you answer those questions, the truth is that all Christ-followers stumble in their faith occasionally. It is usually when a crisis of some sort has crashed into their lives.
These moments can stun us and make us think, “God where were you, where are you now?”
Though these moments come upon all of us, there are some things that can help us prepare.
First, we can get honest before God and ask Him to help us have more faith.
We see this happen in the New Testament. When a father brought his son, whom a demon possessed, to Jesus:
“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9: 23-24).
God wants us to be honest with ourselves about our struggles with faith because it is then that we seek His help.
Take some time, right now, to read and meditate on Jesus’s words:
“anything is possible if a person believes”.
If we let those words sink in, it can help us grow our faith.
Remember that Jesus does not lie. Remember that God made sure that the writers of the New Testament recorded these stories of Jesus for our good and the growth of our faith.
Declare to yourself: If there is a God, then indeed, there is nothing too hard for Him!
Finally, rejoice in this truth: God loves to give good gifts to His children! (Matthew 7:11).
Father, help me to grow my faith in you and in your willingness to help me! I asked this in Jesus’s name, amen.
