We Can Know
Today’s Scripture: 1 John 5:13-21
Key Verse: 1 John 5:13
I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.
Every significant decision we make in this life brings about a significant reaction or result in our lives. For those who reject Jesus and decide to go their own way, the result is eternal separation from God who loves them.
The Apostle John wrote the letter of 1 John for one reason: so those who believe in Jesus would know that they have eternal life.
God is fair, and He has put into place a way for all people to recognize that they must decide about Jesus in this life.
The Apostle Paul wrote about this: “They know the truth about God because He has made it obvious to them. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” (Romans 1:19-20).
Like it or not, all people born into this world know that there is a God and must decide whether to follow or reject Him. God judges people according to the knowledge that they have. Some have much knowledge about Him, possibly because of parents that taught them about God. Some have little knowledge about Him, and God judges accordingly.
Look at Jesus’s own words about the final judgement: “And a servant who knows what the master wants, but isn’t prepared and doesn’t carry out those instructions, will be severely punished. But someone who does not know, and then does something wrong, will be punished only lightly. When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required.” (Luke 12:47-48).
There is much we do not know about rewards and punishment in the afterlife, but this we know: God is fair, and He will treat everyone justly.
The good news is those who have accepted Jesus as the Son of God and received His Spirit into their lives have eternal life. Jesus said He would prepare a place for all who believe in and follow Him (John 14:3).
Jesus is preparing a place, and He will prepare it with perfection and grandeur. Do not miss it! God made sure that we would understand the results of our decisions in this life. Choosing Jesus results in enjoying eternity with God Himself. Carefully choose your path in this life.
Father, I choose Jesus. Help me live like He would want me to. Grant me wisdom to make wise choices today. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
