Jesus Is Able
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 2:14-18
Key Verse: Hebrews 2:18
Since He himself has gone through suffering and testing, He is able to help us when we are being tested.
Our Key Verse for today has two truths in it that we must not miss. These truths have important implications for our lives.
The first implication is that all believers will be tested. I think that we often blame trials of life on the fact that we failed the Lord, in some way, and He is punishing us for it. Most of us can’t remember that our faith needs to be tested in order to be made strong.
The Apostle Peter put it this way: “These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world” (1 Peter 1:7).
When life circumstances seem to turn against us, remember that God uses these trials in life to test our faith. Don’t allow yourself to get angry at other people even though they may have caused your pain. Allow God to use this trial to strengthen your faith; that can only happen as you rest in His ability to make all things turn out for your good!
As the Apostle Peter wrote, our “faith is far more precious than mere gold”! Strong faith can power through anything that life throws at us. I think we all would like to have that kind of strong faith. God uses the tough circumstances that come our way to grow strong faith in us. Join me in the challenge of facing all of life’s problems as opportunities to grow.
The second implication is that Jesus faced all the temptations and trials that mankind faces so that He could help us in our time of need.
I think we would agree that the person who has gone through a trial and came out victorious is one that could help us most when we face a similar trial.
For example, I mentioned in a sermon one Sunday many years ago that my wife and I had to go through counseling to get our marriage back on track. Couples started calling the office wanting an appointment with me. From that Sunday forward, God gave me a ministry of counseling couples that were facing problems in their marriages. If they hadn’t heard that I had gone through marital problems, many probably would never have come to me.
We can go to Jesus with every problem that we face and have the confidence that He is able and willing to help us because He went through problems Himself.
Father, I praise you for sending Jesus to this earth to live among us! I am so grateful that He can help me in all my trials. In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
