How to View Heaven
Scripture Reading: Luke 20:27-40
Key Verse: Luke 20:35
“But in the age to come, those worthy of being raised from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage”.
In our Scripture Reading for today, we see the Sadducees taking aim at Jesus trying to trip Him up.
Sadducees were religious leaders that didn’t believe in the resurrection of the dead. With that in mind, they presented a situation that they felt would cause Jesus to have to agree with them. Moses had given a law that if a man dies leaving a wife with no children, the brother of the deceased would need to marry the widow.
So, these Sadducees used that law to create a trick for Jesus! They suggested that if that situation happened to a large family of brothers, and each brother kept dying and repeating the cycle of marrying the widow, then when the widow died, whose wife would she been in the resurrection?
Jesus’s answer to them lets us get a glimpse of what our eternity destination will be like. Jesus told them that marriage is for people here on earth and Believers, once in Heaven, will not participate in marriage. Jesus goes on to say that in this sense, Believers will be like angels, they are children of God and children of the resurrection.
Jesus went on to “school” these Sadducees on their beliefs that there is no resurrection. He reminded them that Moses, when interacting with God through the burning bush, referred to the Lord as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. God is the God of the Living, not the dead! These Sadducees could not disagree with the truth that Jesus spoke and asked no more questions.
Just as our young children cannot understand some of the adult facts of life, we cannot grasp all the realities of the facts of our eternity. But for us Believers, we can know that our eternity is free from all pain and suffering. We can know that we will love everyone the same, with no favorites. We will no longer be bound by time, for there will be no more time limitations.
Jesus said He was going back to heaven to prepare a place for all who have put our trust in Him. That place will bring us more joy than any of our best days here on earth. We will no longer have to deal with temptations and the enemy of our souls will be in his hell for ever and ever! Even though we can’t grasp all its glory, we can sing, what a day, what a glorious day that will be!
Whatever pain you may be in, whatever problems you may be struggling with, don’t lose hope in the future Jesus has secured for you the day you believed in Him. It will be worth it all when we see Jesus, face to face!
Father, I will keep trusting you no matter my circumstances, In Jesus’s Name I pray, amen.
