The Kingdom’s Action Plan – Part I

The man replied, “the one who showed him mercy”. Then Jesus said, “Yes, now go and do the same”.

If you are like me, you often think about God’s Will for our lives. We wonder if we are doing it right, if we are right with God? What does God want from each of us daily?

I don’t think that that is a complicated question. In fact, I think Jesus made it very clear what God wants from each of us. Here is God’s “Action Plan” for His Kingdom people: Do whatever it takes to love Him with all your heart and show mercy to everyone around you! That’s it. Just be a lover of God and freely show mercy at every opportunity.

Let’s look at how to develop both steps in your life. Today, let’s look at how to love God with all our heart.

How do we get to the point that we love God with all our heart? We can use our human relationships and how we grow friendship and love as an example. We can use this example to help us to do the same with our relationship with God.

When we met someone and we can tell that we like what we see and hear, we instinctively know what to do… we look for ways to spend more time with them. We can find more ways to spend more time with God.

For me, I take time for God every morning. I have found that if I don’t do that first thing, I usually get busy with my day and never really get to it. During my time with God, I pray the Lord’s Prayer, slowly and meaningfully. When I get to “grant me my daily bread”, I interject all my requests of Him. After my prayer time, then I read some scripture. Again, I don’t try to read a certain amount, but rather I read a short passage and make sure I understand what I read before I move on.

In our human relationships, we eventually realize that we also must learn to accept people’s flaws because everyone has them. And we learn that forgiving people when they annoy or frustrate or hurt us is necessary to continue and grow the relationships that our important to us. Can these things be transferred to our relationship with God?

I think so. Even though God doesn’t have any flaws, we can accept the fact that many times it feels like He is not paying attention to us or is not helping us. Sometimes we tend to question why He doesn’t do the things that seem right to us. Yes, God can frustrate us at times simply because we don’t understand Him.

Remember that God’s ways are above our ways, and He is working on our behalf even when it doesn’t feel that way. We must accept this if we want to walk close to God.

Father, help me to love you with all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
