Prayer Establishes Our Release to God
The Jesus Walk

Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Today’s Key Verse underlines the truth that is doesn’t take a Ph.D. in Theology to please God. We must simply learn how Jesus walked in His life and imitate that lifestyle. Our theme for this month is prayer. The question is simple: How should we pray? The answer also is simple in my opinion: Pray as Jesus prayed. We don’t need to come up with our own opinions. Most of the time, our opinions will not match the biblical models given.

When we follow Jesus’ model prayer, we will regularly release our wants and plans to God. That is what the phrase, “May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” means. We should never become legalistic in the verbiage, but the concept of daily surrender to God’s will is solid. I believe Jesus’ model prayer was intentional in every phrase given. He knew how easy it would be for us humans to want to take control of life. The more control we take, the more we squeeze God out of the picture.

Making the model of prayer meaningful takes more than repeating its phrases. In today’s scripture we are reminded that we must walk as Jesus did. Jesus walked in obedience to His heavenly Father. When Jesus’ human desires were contrary to God’s will, Jesus immediately prayed, “Not my will but your will be done.” This was not an easy prayer to pray, especially in the face of the pain and suffering He knew it would mean. It won’t be easy for us, at times, either!

Father, I release my wants and plans for this day to you. Make me a person who truly walks as Jesus walked! It is in Jesus’ Name I pray, amen.
