Prayer and Our Relationship with God
Clear Channels
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Key Verse: 2 Corinthians 6:18
“I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”
If you don’t read today’s Scripture Reading, it will be difficult to appreciate the Key Verse. The Apostle Paul is challenging God’s people to remember that they are temples of the living God. Paul quotes the holy scriptures from Isaiah and Ezekiel which say: “Therefore come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing and I will receive you.” Once we come to Jesus, we are to spend the rest of our days on this earth cooperating with the Holy Spirit in us to clean up our sinfulness. God wants us to separate ourselves from the sin that so easily entangles.
What happens, then, is the channels of our prayer life are clear. Our communication is enhanced because we have touched no unclean thing. The Psalmist David wrote: “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened” (Psalm 66:18). Since David came clean with God, he goes on to say, “But God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!” (Psalm 66:19-20).
When we enter our prayer time, we are in the presence of our Father in heaven. To stand in front of Him with unclean hands (unrepented sin) blocks our ability to communicate! Let’s keep the channels clear and walk in holy fellowship with Him.
Father, search my heart; see if there are any ways in me that are not a reflection of you. I want to present my life to you as a holy sacrifice. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
