The Cross is an Obstacle to Logic
Don’t Stumble – Part 2

Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 2:5-10

Key Verse: 1 Peter 2:8

“A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.” They stumble because they disobey the message–which is also what they were destined for.

I want to follow up from yesterday’s devotional with examples of unbiblical logic.  Jesus’ cross demands we get our thinking correct and in line with God’s thoughts.  The Apostle Paul reminds us: “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2).

One example of man’s logic is that since it is hard to stop sinning and most Christians sin—it must be OK to sin.  There are two lies in that logic.  First of all, in Christ we are given power over sin.  It is true that we can sin, but it is not true that we have to sin!  The next time someone tells you that, ask them for a Bible verse that says sinning is normal for Christ followers.  The second lie is:  “Most Christians sin.”  God is leading His family on a journey to holy living.  It is God’s will for you to be holy.  The Bible says clearly: “No one who is born of God will continue to sin” (1 John 3:9).  The cross of Christ is an obstacle to man’s logic!

Another example of man’s logic that causes him to stumble is: “If I can’t understand or explain it, it is not true.”  Many people will miss eternity in heaven because they demand to understand all the mysteries of God.  One example of their hypocrisy seems blatant, as they cling to the “big bang” theory for how the world got started.  They can’t explain it; they even use the word “theory.”  Yet they believe it.  The cross, indeed, is an obstacle to man’s logic!

Father, may I so live out your truth that those clinging to their theories and logic will see your eternal truth.  In Jesus’ name, amen.
