The Cross is an Obstacle to Pride
Attitude – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:1-8 NLT
Key Verse: Philippians 2:1-8 NLT
You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had.
Our printed key verse for yesterday and today is a command—not a suggestion! “You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had,” Paul wrote. Paul’s confidence in this bold statement was based on Jesus’ teaching to His followers. In Matthew 16:24 it was Jesus who used the word “must”: “Then Jesus said to his disciples, ‘if anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.’”
I want to examine what that means in everyday life. If I have the attitude of Christ today, then when a person offends me, I will not respond as my flesh will want me to! My attitude will rule over my flesh. Jesus was offended by the insults and humiliation while carrying the cross, yet He carried it. Will you have that attitude today if someone offends you? How quickly will you say: “Father, forgive them”? Those words came from Jesus’ lips immediately after He had forgiven them for what they were doing to Him.
Let’s determine to work on our attitude today! Will someone’s critical words cause you to get an attitude of negativity or Christ likeness? If you want to be a follower of Jesus Christ, there is no option, you must work on your attitude, making it imitate the attitude of Christ in all situations. The good news is, the Spirit of God in you will help and empower you to have the right attitude.
Father, I know I can’t on my own, but with your help I am going to have a great attitude today—the attitude of Jesus Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
