I must be willing to relinquish a verbal battle with my spouse rather than demand a win

Today Jesus Works at Home – Part 3

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:5-11

Key Verse: Philippians 2:8

And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death–
even death on a cross!

I hope after reading Philippians 2:5-11 for the last three days you have become saturated with the attitudes of Jesus. Today we focus on His humble and obedient nature! Jesus stripped Himself of pride and He had plenty to be proud about! He chose the path of obedience even though He had the right to rule all the ages! The Bible is clear, Jesus made these choices. He was not forced nor coerced.

It is your choice whether to follow Jesus’ model. You get to choose who will be your model. As Christ followers, we’ve received the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit empowers us to be able to live out this model, but He won’t force us.

Today we come to the final two attitudes that we must take upon ourselves, if we want to revolutionize our marriages. I must strip away my pride and become obedient to the nudges of God’s Spirit in me! I must be willing to relinquish a verbal battle with my spouse rather than demand a “win.” I can be firm in my convictions but must never be mean in my delivery. I can state my opinion without being obstinate in my attitudes. I can be gracious when I’m right and admit when I’m wrong.

Yes, God made it possible, through Jesus, for us to have marriages that bless us. Our job is simply to follow our model.

Father, the journey is never easy but I confess you as Lord of my life. I will live that out in my marriage first and then to the world. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
