Our Freedom of Choice!

When we want to walk as Jesus walked, it makes for hard choices in a world that walks to a different drummer

Hard Choices
Doing the Jesus Walk

Scripture Reading: 1 John 2:1-10

Key Verse: 1 John 2:6

Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

To finish up this week’s emphasis on “hard choices,” I want to look at the toughest daily choice we must make: to walk as Jesus did. Does that seem impossible? We can know it’s not impossible because God’s Word would never guide us where He would not provide for us.

As you walk through your day, be mindful of “nudges” from God’s Spirit in you. We are all confronted with both little and big decisions every day. Usually, one choice will be God honoring while the other will compromise a biblical standard. Sometimes it is obvious which choice we should make; these become simple challenges to our surrender to do the right thing. Other decisions cause us to pray and ask for wisdom. It is not so clear on which way the Lord would want us to go. If we are sincerely seeking what Jesus would do, we can trust God to show us the way.

Remember, when sincere Christ followers find themselves with hard choices, it is because we are not of this world. Facing what we consider hard choices is because we care about God and pleasing Him. When we want to walk as Jesus walked, it makes for hard choices in a world that walks to a totally different “drummer.” Our flesh and the evil one’s influence are two major factors that make choices difficult. But we have One much greater in us than both these forces and He has promised to guide us into all truth (John 16:13).

Father, as I walk through this day, I want to look like Jesus. Check my spirit when I get ‘out of step’ with your Spirit. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, amen.

  1. To be in the world but not of the world is, easy to say but hard to do sometimes. Satin knows how to bait us. I have to remind myself that Jesus is not only with us but in us, and I can do all things through him who gives me strength. Thanks for the devo
