What is in God’s Case?
Rest
Scripture Reading: Matthew 11:25-30
Key Verse: Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
I believe our nation is chronically tired. This weariness comes in all flavors. In the physical: lack of sleep. This tired nation grows increasingly fatigued in its battle with crime, filling jails, building more jails and filling them. Our nation is tired emotionally. Our counseling centers are overrun with clients who are discouraged, depressed and weary of life. This list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning “debt fatigue,” foreclosures and bankruptcies occurring in historic proportions. Yes, we are tired.
Our scripture for today is like a drink of refreshing cold water to a weary soul. Jesus, with arms open, says, “Come to me.” Jesus offers rest. Those who will accept Jesus and make a consistent effort to walk as He did, will enjoy His rest. His forgiveness, when received, will allow rest to the weary. His laws of love will lower crime. Jesus’ power and protection calms the fears we may have of the criminal. His hope-filled promises for this life’s problems and eternal rewards yet to come, will grant rest for our emotional hurts. Relationship damage begins to heal with Jesus’ touch in our hearts and minds. Yes, Jesus offers rest to weary people.
Do you need some rest, the kind of rest that Jesus offers? If so, take this moment to invite Him into your life and trust Him with your needs. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light!
Father, I tend to forget to exchange my heavy burden with your light ‘burdens’ of surrender and trust. I visualize that your arms are open. I’m running to you for rest! In Jesus’ Name, amen.
