What is in God’s Case?
Good Gifts
Scripture Reading: Matthew 7:7-12
Key Verse: Matthew 7:11
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
If we choose God by asking His Son into our lives, we get all that God has prepared for us. “It’s in His case.” Today’s scripture tells us clearly that God loves to give good gifts to His children. This desire goes way beyond our human joy of giving gifts to our children. I love the phrase: “how much more” that is used regarding God’s gift giving. In other words, God’s generosity is so great, goes so much further than ours, it is hard to imagine!
For several reasons, our children may not realize the joy we parents feel when giving them gifts. These reasons parallel why we don’t understand God. First, gift giving must be properly timed or it lessens the blessing. If we gave gifts every day, without thought, our children would soon no longer recognize them as blessings, thus losing the “blessing.” So, it is with us and God. He chooses the timing for gift giving so it is truly a blessing!
Secondly, our gifts to our children must be age appropriate or they won’t truly bless them. So, it is with God. He knows our maturity level and gives perfect gifts that match our maturity and growth in spiritual matters.
Finally, we try to choose gifts that are durable and lasting. Our Father in heaven knows true value versus trinkets that won’t last. His gifts are of eternal value and durability!
Father, I trust your judgment and love for me. All your gifts are perfect, and I receive them with thanksgiving. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
