Scripture Reading: Joshua 24:14-18

Key Verse: Joshua 24:15

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

After Moses died, God asked Joshua to lead His nation of Israel. Joshua said yes and served the Lord faithfully the rest of his life. Joshua made daily choices to obey or disobey what he felt the Lord wanted him to do. Joshua experienced great victories and lived a blessed life because he continually made the very personal choice to follow his God.

Our choices do, indeed, affect other people, but primarily these choices are very personal. I must choose it for my life, my soul’s destiny. The blessings or lack of blessings in my life are mainly due to my personal decisions. Even when other people’s choices cause us pain, God will step in and work it out for our good if we continue to make good choices.

Joshua closed out his earthly life by challenging the Israelites to make the choice — to not straddle the fence. If they wanted other gods or other things rather than the God of their forefathers, then so be it. But if they wanted, from their hearts, the one and only true God, then Joshua said: choose Him and follow Him!

If you want God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, then choose Him and follow His instructions. Life with God demands loyalty. We can’t dabble in both the world and God. Joshua concluded that as for him and his house, they would serve the Lord. If you have chosen Jesus, don’t change your mind when trouble comes your way!

Father, I choose you and your plan of salvation through Jesus. Today, with your help, I’ll make all my choices with you in mind. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
