Our Freedom of Choice!

Each day we must choose to make choices that please God or please our flesh!

Life’s Choices
Choosing Wisdom

Scripture Reading: Proverbs 8:6-11

Key Verse: Proverbs 8:10

Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold,

Today’s scriptural lesson from Proverbs has wisdom speaking, as if human. Proverbs 8:12 makes this clear: “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence.” In our passage, wisdom is challenging us to choose wisdom over money and other human desires. This begs the question: what do you most desire in your life? If you are a Christ follower, you have already taken God’s great deal: Jesus Christ, but along our life’s journey, there are more choices to make. The Bible wants us to make the best choices possible in this life. The apostle Paul writes to the Philippians: “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best…” (Philippians 1:9, emphasis mine).

God never makes us robots. Our free moral agency stays in place, even after we accept Jesus as Lord of our lives. Each day we must choose to make choices that please God or please our flesh! Wisdom — God’s wisdom — is, indeed, far greater than silver or gold. Choose wisdom by seeking it out in God’s Word. Follow Bible instructions, even if it all doesn’t make sense now. Trust this wisdom; allow it to guide your behavior and conversation.

Yes, God continually asks: Deal or no deal? In other words, each day we choose what God offers or what this world offers. If you take God’s deal, it will mean sacrifice or “putting to death” fleshly rivals to His authority. Are you taking the deal?

Father, it is hard to choose you, at times, in this world. Please help me. Grant me your wisdom for today’s decisions. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
