Who Is King? – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 3:12-17
Key Verse: 1 Peter 3:15
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.
Yesterday’s devotional talked about what it might look like in a person’s life if Jesus was truly king over them. We said that Jesus would mess with our lives, creating in us a holy lifestyle. He would guide us to be good and selfless mangers of money. Today I want us to think about our relationships. If Jesus is king over you, what will your relationships look like? The answer is, totally different with Him in you than those who don’t allow Jesus to rule over them. Without Jesus, we selflessly fight for our rights; with Jesus, we state our feelings but refuse to get into verbal battles to get our way. Why do we do this? Because we have come to trust that our Father in heaven is watching and will help us, if we step away and allow Him to step in. If I don’t fight for myself, my Father in heaven will fight for me.
As a servant of King Jesus, it may look like I’m losing things that people without Jesus are gaining. However, we know that all that is a lie and one day the truth will be revealed. All accounts will be settled, and Christ followers will be the winners! We serve Jesus and everyone around us, as He directs us. We follow His model, as He declared that He came to serve not to be served. When we declare Him to be our Lord and King, we spend the rest of our lives determined to serve Him and His purposes. Since God values relationships, we value relationship—all of them. We may not be able to “feel” the love for some relationships, but we treat them as valuable.
How do we treat a valuable relationship? We talk with kindness. We forgive their failures. We accept their weakness.
Father, I have made you King of my life. I will carefully treat everyone around me with kindness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
