We need to realize that our emotions should never be given power over us

Praise Him with My Body
Ascribe Glory – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 29:1-11

Key Verse: Psalm 29:2

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

Let’s continue the thought from yesterday’s devotional about ascribing glory when it feels fake.  We need to realize that our emotions should never be given power over us.  If we do, our anger, for example, will wreck our witness for Christ and damage relationships.  If our emotions rule us, addictions will develop and soon ruin our lives.

The good news is, Christ followers are not victims of their emotions or anything or anybody else.  We are free in Christ and can do all things in His strength.  When we feel our emotions starting to take over, we must start praying for God’s Spirit to help us.  That act of praying often breaks the thought pattern that was creating the negative emotion.  This is why the Apostle Paul could write—with authority—“Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Philippians 4:4).

The summary of our discussion over these last two days is simple: Daily ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name.  Ascribe it; give credit; make the daily decision to focus on God’s glorious attributes and power.  Determine to praise Him, especially when you don’t feel like it.  This act will tell the devil that he is not in charge!

Father, it is you that created this beautiful earth.  It is you that gives me breath.  Everything good in my life is because of you!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
