Praise Him with a Humble Heart
Does God Oppose You? – Part 2
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 5:1-7
Key Verse: 1 Peter 5:5
Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
I am sure you do not want God opposing you! I am sure you want God working in your behalf rather than against you. However, we must take these scriptures in 1 Peter and make sure we are living in a way that opens the door for God’s blessing.
First, let’s examine our attitude as we start each day. Do we have an attitude of gratitude each morning? This attitude expresses the thought that everything good comes from our Father in heaven. The prideful feel they earn what they get; the humble feel they receive more than they deserve. The humble thank God for being so gracious to them; the proud only want more! Be sure to include a place in your prayers for praise for all God has done. I often list as many blessings as I can think of. I want my mind to be filled with gratitude.
Second, if you catch yourself thinking less of others around you, stop yourself. God wants us to think more highly of others than ourselves (Romans 12:3). The enemy of our souls loves to put these thoughts of pride in our minds. I whisper prayers of repentance when my mind has prideful thoughts. Let’s determine to live humbly before the Lord.
Father, I need your help in fighting off any thoughts of being better than any other person. I will humbly serve you! In Jesus’ name, amen.
