God isn’t in need of help to accomplish His purposes on earth

Praise Him with a Humble Heart
Who God Supports – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 147:1-7

Key Verse: Psalm 147:6

The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.

As we continue looking at Psalm 147 we see the psalmist encouraging people everywhere to sing to the Lord with thanksgiving (vs. 7).  He goes on to remind us that God’s pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor His delight in the legs of man (vs. 10).  In other words, God isn’t in need of help to accomplish His purposes on earth.

What does God want?  In verse 11, the psalmist is clear: “The Lord delights in those who fear Him, who put their hope in His unfailing love.”  The pride filled person has little fear of or need for the Lord.  The psalmist makes this fact clear in Psalm 10:4 – “In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.”  This is why the scripture is so clear concerning the humble: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).  Also, James writes: “Humble yourself before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (James 4:10).

Who does God support?  The humble!  Start your day praising the God who is worthy of our praise!  Humble yourself before Him; acknowledge your great need of His help.  Don’t try to lift yourself up; that never works well!  Let God do the heavy lifting.  If we are humble and wait on Him, He will lift us up in His perfect timing!  When we allow ourselves to rush through the day, this is an early sign of pride: “Who needs to slow down and seek God?”  Let’s praise Him with a humble heart!

Father, I quiet myself before you and wait!  I humbly acknowledge my great need for your mighty work in and around me!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
