Judgment day is coming—a time to give an account of your life on earth

Sunday Morning Worship
October 28, 2012
Series: “Hunger is Not a Game”
Today: “It Affects Eternity”

Scripture:  Matthew 25:31-33 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

Matthew 25:41-46 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.  42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Intro:  Judgment day is coming—a time to give an       account        of your life on earth.

A.  In this picture, Jesus clearly depicts the people who will be there:

1.  “All the      nations        will gather before Him” (vs. 32).

2.  Then Jesus will divide the crowd into two groups.

* First group will sit on His “       right hand        .”

* Second group will sit on His “      left hand       .”

B.  This whole picture now begs the question: How do I live to be assured to be on the        right hand        of Jesus?

I.          SEE        JESUS.

* If you can see Jesus, you will do the       right thing       .

II.         SERVE        JESUS.

* We must not get too involved with making sure everyone         deserves         our help.

 III.         SHARE         JESUS.

A.  Jesus told us…

Luke 12:8 “I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God.

Matthew 10:42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones because he is my disciple, I tell you the truth, he will certainly not lose his reward.”

B.  But we go in       Jesus’ name        !

Conclusion:  Jesus closes this passage with a devastating conclusion to anyone who fails to see, serve, and share Jesus:

Matthew 25:46a“Then they will go away to eternal punishment…

* The last phrase of vs. 46 is our goal:

…but the righteous to eternal life.”
