Feed the Hungry – Part 2

Scripture Reading:  Isaiah 58:11-14 NLT

Key Verse: Isaiah 58:10 NLT

Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble.
Then your light will shine out from the darkness,
and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.

The conclusion to yesterday’s devotional is a simple question: Are you feeding the hungry and helping people that you see facing troubles?  To obtain God’s rich blessings as described in Isaiah 58, we must be obedient to His instructions.  His instructions are easy to understand and all of us have the ability to accomplish God’s request of us.

Most of us can do a better job of feeding the hungry.  It wouldn’t take 30 minutes to research some organizations in your community that need help feeding the hungry.  Many of us could afford to sponsor a child through Nazarene Compassionate Ministries or Compassion International.  Those who can’t afford to give money could give some time toward this goal.  Take some time today to do something to “feed the hungry”!

The second half of verse 10 reads, “help those in trouble.”  That might simply be to make a phone call and let them know you are praying for them, then truly pray for them.  It might mean you spend some time helping them walk through a problem, giving godly advice or comfort.  It could be that God would nudge you to share some of your money with them, but a serious Christ follower must refuse to ignore the hungry or turn their back on those who are in pain!

Father, grant me wisdom and courage to take action today in behalf of the hungry and the oppressed.  Use me to your glory!  In Jesus’ name, amen.
