It is an Injustice
Spend Yourself – Part 2
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 58:7-10
Key Verse: Isaiah 58:8
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.
As we continue our thoughts from yesterday, I want to remind you that there are hungry people all around us! If you will get the statistics on poverty levels in the county in which you live, I think you will be surprised! In Michigan, there are thousands dependent on food giveaways and free school lunches. There are other states that are suffering worse than we are. After you look up those statistics, Google the statistics of starving people in third world countries. Why would you take the time to look up these statistics? Because looking at them would be a good first step in “spending yourself” for a cause that God really cares about.
The obvious second step is to do something about it. Can we solve the hunger problem alone? Of course not. God isn’t requiring that of you, but God is watching what you and I do about it. There is a hungry family in our community and in our world family that is waiting for us to make a difference in their lives!
“Spend yourself” is a phrase that means you will make it an issue, refusing to be distracted by your own needs. Remember, God promised those who take up this cause that He would “satisfy your needs in a sun scorched land” (Isaiah 58:11). Let’s take care of God’s business!
Father, I will make hunger an issue in my life. I will find ways to bring relief to those that need food. In Jesus’ name, amen.
