Series: “Who is Your Neighbor?”
Today: “Your Neighbor is Divinely Appointed”
Scripture: Luke 10:25-29 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
27 He answered: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
Intro: This series focuses on the second greatest command, and asks two questions:
1. Who is my neighbor ?
2. What should I do when I discover my neighbor?
I. GOD SEES YOUR NEIGHBOR BEFORE YOU DO .
A. The New Testament verifies this principle.
Acts 16:6-10 Next Paul and Silas traveled through the area of Phrygia and Galatia, because the Holy Spirit had prevented them from preaching the word in the province of Asia at that time. 7 Then coming to the borders of Mysia, they headed north for the province of Bithynia, but again the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to go there. 8 So instead, they went on through Mysia to the seaport of Troas. 9 That night Paul had a vision: A man from Macedonia in northern Greece was standing there, pleading with him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” 10 So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once, having concluded that God was calling us to preach the Good News there.
B. In New Testament principles, your neighbor is the person God picks out for you.
II. GOD LOVES YOUR NEIGHBOR AS MUCH AS YOU .
III. GOD MAKES YOUR DAY – TRUST HIM.
A. Psalm 118:24 – This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.
B. We are to rejoice in God’s purpose for each day.
Conclusion: We are often left mystified over the events of a day…
